On August 8, 2012, R. Scott Oswald, managing principal of The Employment Law Group® law firm, served as a panelist in a discussion on age discrimination in employment at the International Association of Official Human Rights Agencies’ (IAOHRA) annual conference.

Mr. Oswald’s presentation was entitled, “ADEA claims in the Wake of Gross v. FBL Financial Services, Inc.”, and focused on challenges faced by state and local agencies, as well as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), in demonstrating causation in age discrimination complaints after the Gross decision. Oswald’s co-panelists included David Lopez, who serves as General Counsel at the EEOC, as well as Elizabeth Owens Bille, currently Associate General Counsel at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). In addition to discuss the impact of the Gross decision on employment litigation, the presenters also discussed human resources compliance strategies and best practices in preventing age discrimination in the workplace.

IAOHRA is a Washington, D.C. based non-profit organization whose membership include over 140 governmental human rights agencies throughout the U.S. and Canada. The conference took place in New Orleans from August 5-8, 2012.

The Employment Law Group® law firm has an extensive discrimination practice and has broad experience fighting for the rights of employees who have been victims of discrimination and harassment in the workplace.
